Joan Sherwood




Ms. Sherwood, Acellus Teacher for Essential Math I and II, is a 30-year veteran teacher of Fort Osage High School in Independence, Missouri. During her many years of teaching excellence, Ms. Sherwood taught everything from fundamental mathematics through AP Calculus. She served as the Mathematics Department Chairperson for 9 years. She also served on school district and secondary level mathematics curriculum writing committees. She was the Vice President for the local National Education Association for four years. In 1997, she was selected as High School Teacher of the Year by Fort Osage. She also participated in Project Extra, an NSF mathematics education project focused on mathematics teaching and assessment standards.

Ms. Sherwood's strong understanding of mathematics and the underlying concepts shines through as she strengthens students' understanding in Essential Math I and II, preparing them for more advanced mathematical topics to follow.

When Ms. Sherwood isn't busy teaching math, she enjoys coaching a winning track team, golfing, and helping in the community.
