Here is the information on the Acellus Mathematics Instruction and Assessment System for Alternative School programs. This system addresses the unwieldy challenge of effectively teaching a classroom of students whose skills are on many different levels.

Acellus presents brief video lessons and, at the same time, problems for the students to solve based on the video instruction. Students work at their own pace and access videos and notes to help them solve the problems. (Sample Acellus lesson) Based on their responses, Acellus customizes the course to each student – moving forward to the next lesson, or giving more video instruction and more practice, as needed. Students do not move ahead until they demonstrate mastery of each concept. At the end of each unit, mid-course, and at the end of the course, Acellus administers a review and an exam.

Acellus provides teachers with a powerful set of administrative tools. The Monitor Class feature allows teachers to see the activity of all of the students in the class as they are working, alerting the teacher when an individual student is struggling with a particular problem. Teachers can also view and print out various Progress and Grade Reports for individual students or for the class as a whole.

Acellus Mathematics Courses range from Fundamental Mathematics and Algebra I, all the way up through AP Calculus and College Entrance Math Preparation. (Acellus Course Listing)

New courses are continually being added to the Acellus curriculum. One of the courses in development is Acellus Reading, a full-blown course for beginning readers. It is taking an exciting, new approach to teaching using animated characters.

A unique feature of Acellus is its daily course updates. Acellus Courses are continually being improved, utilizing the statistical data that is collected from the students. This data is analyzed and used to adjust the teaching to better respond to student needs. These changes are uploaded to each Acellus server nightly.

Further meeting the needs of Alternative Schools, each Acellus Server is equipped to deliver the courses over the Internet to students unable to attend school.

Acellus Grants are currently available to help schools acquire Acellus for their Alternative School programs.
