Unlike traditional educational programs offered today by most colleges and universities, the IIST Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program offers applied degrees in which students are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. These degree programs prepare students for employment opportunities in high-tech industry.
The IIST Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program is for students desiring to enter a career as a technology entrepreneur. During the course of this applied program, each IIST student is provided with a learning experience in which they work closely with a mentor to find solutions to real-world problems.
Funding for the IIST Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program comes primarily from industrial partners interested in providing valuable hands-on learning experiences to IIST students. Many students are provided with specialized training directly at the industrial partner's facility.
The Institute has a limited number of scholarships and fellowships available to qualified students.
Undergraduate and graduate level programs are offered for the following areas of specialization:
Business Finance
The Business Finance specialty includes techniques of financial recordkeeping, budgeting, income statements and balance sheets. Opportunities also exist to prepare students with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for development of high tech business development financial plans.
Computer-Based Learning Systems
A major current trend in the education industry is the movement towards computer-based learning systems. The International Academy of Science is a world leader in the development and deployment of Acellus-based learning systems. This specialty prepares students for a wide variety of career opportunities in this rapidly expanding industry.
Computer Graphics and Design
In the Computer Graphics and Design specialty, each student is given the opportunity to develop and master techniques of graphical designs and images utilizing state-of-the-art computer development tools. This specialty does not necessarily require advanced artistic capability, but a good eye for design and a desire to work with computers are required.
Computerized Metal Work and Fabrication
Computerized Metal Work and Fabrication prepares students for a career in the digital control metal stamping and fabricating industry, operating basic equipment, and design and programming opportunities.
Construction Technology
This specialty is for students wishing to become involved in the construction industry and the development of new technologies. Participants work hand-in-hand with mentors in gaining practical experience in a variety of construction technologies, methods, and applications.
Electronic Manufacturing Technology
Development of custom chips, printed circuit board layouts, and electronic fabrication helps prepare students for careers in the electronics industry. This program allows actual hands-on experience in technologies including surface-mount robotic manufacturing, wave solder, electronic inspection, and more.
High Definition Video Production
The High Definition Video Production specialty provides an opportunity to learn digital filming, lighting, sound, digital editing, and state-of-the-art rendering techniques. Students in this specialty also have an opportunity to work with the development of scripts and directing video production segments.
Hydrogen Energy Technology
The Hydrogen Energy specialty includes opportunities to work with hydrogen production, storage, and utilization technologies. Projects have special emphasis on metal hydride storage technology, water electrolysis, and solid polymer fuel cell technology.
Science and Engineering
This specialty covers a wide diversity of technologies and techniques utilized in the research and development of technology. This program is specifically targeted for individuals interested in basic scientific and engineering research at commercialization levels.
Technology Entrepreneurship
The Technology Entrepreneurship program has been designed to assist students having an interest in developing and operating high-tech manufacturing companies. The program provides hands-on experience in a diversity of areas including sales and marketing, design, manufacturing, finance, patent technology, and commercial research and development.
Technology Marketing
Unique opportunities are available for individuals possessing the knowledge and skills necessary to accomplish the marketing of innovative technology products. This specialty includes hands-on marketing experience and is intended to prepare participants for a career in this emerging field.
