Technology Spotlight: CT Revolutionizes Airport Security
A novel application of 3-D computed tomography (CT) scanning (currently used in the medical field) to airport security screening is seeing positive results at security checkpoints.
The CT scanners with 3-D vision are being tested in place of the 2-D scanners currently being used with the result that agents are able to see potentially harmful items without manually unpacking suitcases and travel bags — saving time and effort for both the agents and the travelers.
Details of this effective and beneficial application of scanning technology are featured on this week’s Technology Spotlight.
