LED lighting is one of the most efficient methods that industry has developed so far. However, at 50% efficiency, far above other types of lighting, there is obvious room for improvement.

Researchers working on boosting that efficiency have tried various designs with only marginal results. Then, as if often the case, they turned to nature and made some amazing discoveries.
