Course Overview

This course is designed to help students achieve mastery of English as a second language. Students of any native tongue and any level of mastery can improve their English through the Discover Method presented in this course. The course includes the syntax, vocabulary and pronunciation needed to comprehend everyday English. Students learning English for the first time, or needing extra practice and help with English as a second language will find this course to be a perfect fit. Students can use Discover English in a stand-alone environment or as a supplement to teacher instruction in the classroom in a blended learning environment.

Scope and Sequence

Unit 1 In this unit students learn food words including apple, cake, berry, ice cream, milk, coffee, bread, banana, candy, cherry, cupcake, fries, and popcorn. They learn animal names including bird, bug, cat, dog, horse, pig, fish, bear, chicken, butterfly, cow, duck, frog, parrot, sheep, and spider. They learn words for things people wear, including hat, shoes, watch, boots, gloves, glasses, socks, and ring. They learn words for things in nature such as leaf, tree, moon, stars, grass, flower, and rainbow. They learn words for parts of the body, including nose, eyes, mouth, ear, hand, feet, finger, and toes. They learn words for things on the road, including car, bus, and stop sign. They learn words for household items, including book, spoon, tissue, toilet, lamp, pills, chair, fork, clock, bed, bench, bag, cards, bubbles, keys, knife, yarn, and laptop. They learn color words including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, white, and colors. They learn words for vehicles including car, train, and airplane. They learn the names of things we write with, including pen, pencil, and crayons. They learn words for things we carry, including balloon, baby, wallet, and badge.
